PUBLIC SERVICE ADVERTISING

Why are these "ads" considered as epitomes of this kind of advertising?

THE GIRL EFFECT: THE CLOCK IS TICKING
An ad about the powerful social and economic change brought about when girls have the opportunity to participate in their society.

  • What's the main message that the ad seems to be putting forward?
  • What do the colours represent in this ad?

For many centuries people have experimented on animals. There are two main reasons for doing this:
  1. first, to find out more about the animals themselves, and,
  2. secondly, to test substances and procedures to see if they are harmful (with a view to deciding whether or not they can be used on human beings). In the second category fall cosmetic products as well as medicines and surgical techniques. There is a growing consensus that it is not acceptable to test cosmetic products on animals.
The debate about the pros and cons of animal experimentation (or 'vivisection') is one that elicits very strong emotions: animal rights activists have even resorted to trespass, violence, death threats, and hunger strikes in their single-minded (and sometimes illegal) mission to end this practice.
  • Do animals have rights?
  • Is it morally acceptable to experiment on animals to develop products and medicines that benefit human beings?
  • Should we experiment on animals for scientific and medical purposes?
  • Should human beings be allowed to use animals as objects of sport and entertainment?

  1. -What's the main message that the ad seems to be putting forward?

I think that the ad is trying to put forward the idea that we are the owners of our lives, we choose the life that we want to live but we have to choose the right way. If a teenager gets pregnant sixteen and has a child, it's going to be an unwanted pregnancy, if this happens the girl is going to be forced to take care of the child and she cannot go out with her friends, she IS going to be unhappy and she is going to transmit this to the child, her life is going to change forever, maybe she is going to stay alone in her decision of having a child, maybe she will not have money and maybe the child will not have the affection that parents have to give to their children.

-What do the colours represent in this ad?

ORANGE: it represents ower, being strong, being healthy, being happy, having success... it represents all the good things that you can have if you choose the right way.
RED: it is the colour of fire, war, energy, something forbidden, an alarm... it represents all the things that you have to avoid and escape from .
BLACK: it represents death and mystery, darkness, danger, assertiveness, it represents too things that you have to avoid.
WHITE: it is associated with light, with goodness, with innocence, hospitals and coolness.

    -Do animals have rights?

Of course! there are not inferior to humans, they cannot be battered and abandoned, they have feelings like us, they protect us from the enemies , an example are dogs, they give us love, like cats and they keep us company like parrots. They are exactly like us.

-Is it morally acceptable to experiment on animals to develop products and medicines that benefit human beings?
this is a difficult question, morally I don't think so because they suffer but the science has to go on and maybe these medicines are going to help animals too , not just humans.

-Should we experiment on animals for scientific and medical purposes?

We can, but we have to avoid their suffering, or make experiments when they are almost dying or if they have an illness.

-Should human beings be allowed to use animals as objects of sport and entertainment?

It depends , animals were made to run, to jump and to play, if we are training animals with a whip and shouting they are going to be unhappy but if we give them a cookie if they did something right and we try they have fun and be happy, why not?

  2. THE GIRL EFFECT: THE CLOCK IS TICKING

What's the main message that the ad seems to be putting forward?

This ad deals with/tackles the issue of children rights, and compares the life of a poor girl with a girl who has a family who have information about hazards which a teenager can suffer.
The advertisement tells us about the reality in poor countries, (and not only in on poor countries, because rich families cannot know about some dangers either) when pre-teenagers at only 15 years old get pregnant and contract HIV, because the family don’t have information about it, but we can see a solution too: if people have information, if they know about illnesses, girls can have a different life, going to school, visit a doctor, have a job, and in the future, getting married when she’s prepared, and she can have healthy children, and her children can have healthy children too, and this can continue for generation after generation.

What do the colors represent in this ad?

This ad is not very colorful, but the colors have a lot of importance.
The black and white are the colors that predominate in the ad most appear, the white, especially in the background of the ad, and the black in the hands who want to catch the girl, and which represent danger.
The red, which is a strong color, and usually represents strong things, it symbolizes danger and the HIV.
We can see orange when the ad deals with safety, when the solution starts, and when the girl is studying and having a good life.

    ANIMALS

    1)Do animals have rights?

In my opinion animals do have rights, although people usually think that is better the suffering in animals that in humans. I disagree with this, because we are animals too, and animals are living creatures like us, so we must respect them, and don't consider we are the better race in the world.

Is it morally acceptable to experiment on animals to develop products and medicines that benefit human beings?

Many animals like monkeys and rats die when scientists make experiments with they, and I think the society aren't worry about that, for example: I have a strange illness, and doctors are studying how it progresses in an animal, and in me. The doctors make many experiments, and find how to cure me, but the animal dies. So, the animal is died, but it saved my life, because many experiments were tried in it, after I survive, and this is not just, because they have feelings like us, and I completely disagree with test drugs in animals.

Should human beings be allowed to use animals as objects of sport and entertainment?

In one hand, knowing how people usually take care of animals when they are being trained, I disagree with this, but in the other hand, if people treat animals with affection, and with love, I don't see any problem if the pet is happy.
